Chapter 17

It was four in the morning, and Ray-Ray sat behind the wheel of a stolen Lincoln, while parked at a curb, gathering his thoughts. Frankly, there wasn’t much mental preparation that would ready him for this occasion. He’d mulled over every possibility, and it all came down to the same resolution each and every time. He had to kill Spooky.

For a month now, rumors had been floating around about Spooky plotting his revenge. Up until a few days ago, Ray had been disregarding the gossip, until a little freak he knew by the name of Courtney actually called Spooky on three-way, and allowed him to hear for himself that the man was conspiring to take his life. With this knowledge, Ray couldn’t sleep, until his enemy was no longer breathing.

Taking a deep breath, he tightened the strings around the hood of his hoodie, and cocked his gun back with his glove covered hands. “Fuck it.” he eased out of the car.

Checking his surroundings, he surmised that the coast was clear. So, he made a dash diagonally across the street to the back of the house. He approached a window, finding it unlocked, just as Courtney had promised. Therefore, quietly, he lifted the window, before climbing inside. Immediately, he realized that he was inside of the kitchen as Court had mentioned.

Tipping through the house, Ray-Ray noticed a little body sleeping on the couch, and prayed to God that the child didn’t wake, before he’d done what he’d come to do. Making as little noise as humanly possible, he ambled to the last room in the house, which was supposedly Spooky’s room. Thankfully, the door was wide open, aiding him in the element of surprise. Through the darkness, it was harder to see, but he was able to make out one body tucked underneath the covers. Therefore, he stepped over to the bed, and glowered down at his prey. Wanting to make sure that he’d found his target, he snatched the cover back. Sure enough, it was him. Wasting no time, Ray aimed his pistol. With gritted teeth, and malice in his heart, he pulled the trigger.

BLOW!

One bullet to the head ended Ray’s problem. Hurriedly, he scurried out of the room, before going right back out of the very window he’d climbed into. Leaving no stone unturned, he closed the window back, which was sure to leave the police baffled. No signs of forced entry.

Leaning up against the side of the house, he made sure to check the perimeter, before sprinting back to the awaiting car. He hopped in, before slowly pulling away from the curb. Driving a few blocks down, he pulled over to dump the throw-away pistol into the sewer. He then jumped back into the car, thinking of where he could abandon the vehicle. Deciding that driving it to the closest projects, and parking it would be his best bet, he headed towards the Dead End. He knew that more than likely some youngsters would find the car, and go for a joy ride, completely disconnecting him from the theft of the car.
